Lord of the Flies Discussion Questions

1) I agree that individuals are basically evil and must constantly fight against their violent nature. I think that is true because some people can control themselves, we all have bad thoughts. Some cannot control those thoughts and let their bad side take over.

2) I do not agree with individuals going along with any type of activity, no matter how violent, when pressured by their peers. I believe that it is their choice because if you have self control and you know what is right and what is wrong then you would not let anyone pressure you into doing anything.

3) I do not think that the human race is destined to destroy itself; we have gotten better than before. There are close to no wars/less wars, and we have little to no racism. And we are continuing to do better.

4) I agree that rules and punishments are necessary if we are to maintain a civilized society, because if there are no rules then you can do whatever you want, either bad or good. Also punishments are necessary too, because if you do something wrong/bad you should be faced with consequences, or else you would never learn and continue to do those bad things.

5) The statement, "We are our own worst enemy", is true and I agree because we are always constantly fighting with ourselves thriving to do better. And also, we are the ones who have bad thoughts and we can let them take over us.
